Now working as a recruiter in Micron which embrace the values of People, Innovation, Tenacity, Collaboration and Customer Focus, the caring for people and always putting people in the first place have been emphasized and this is quite inspiring for a recruiter since it has always been the target that I hold, and Micron is the place that actually taking moves and initiatives to make it happen. In Micron, we care for our employees and meanwhile, care and invest for public good. As a recruiter, what I'm focusing on is acting as the role of consultant to candidates, business and related stakeholders to promote for the enhancing of these values.
I build bridge for talents and business, provide consulting for them
As a recruiter in Micron, the very essential task is attracting the most fit talents to join Micron. Micron is a firm advocate and supporter of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion regarding people recruitment and employee benefit. So instead of simply focusing on the actions of recruitment, we as a team also put much efforts pushing the progress of DEI though the initiation and attendance in various DEI projects.
Talents are for business, and they both have their own thoughts, thus improving the difficulty and also the importance of guarantee the high competence between the two sides. Jumping out of the pure recruiter role and acting as the consultant to both talents and business via utilizing the knowledge, experience, insight thoughts regarding career development, and talent structure and requirements of business are quite key for real understanding of core requirements from both sides, by which the competence between them could be evaluated and improved.
Providing care for people through recruiting, consulting and projects
Recruiting, consulting and participating in projects through the holding of values and spirits including tenacity, collaboration, Innovation, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, these are all methods, solutions and actions for a final purpose, the people. People has always been the very core motivation for me to take the role as recruiter and keep tenacity in the completion of complex and challenging tasks.
Business is also very important for sure, but without the people, how could the product innovation and business expansion emerges, if not for the benefit of people, why should we devote so much to the business. I'm providing consulting to hiring managers from the talent market perspective in order to support on the product development and business development, but all these actions for the people in the end.
It is all about what you have in hand instead of what you have in mind
When evaluating the competence of a talent with a certain role, generally the recruiter and the hiring managers wouldn't aim at a talent scores 9-10 out of 10, instead, a talent scores 6-8 would also be considered combining with other qualifications, among which the most valued one is the talent's actual actions of learning and self-improvement. The capability of taking actions set a challenging barrier for talents who only thinks and those not only thinks but also acts.
In the daily work and life, the capability of hands on actions are also super important for people to achieve career and life goals. Taking action is the spirit that Micron has always been held and carried out. Filled a vacancy that opened for over half a year within 2 weeks
The talent market competition of semiconductor industry in China is quite fierce due to the huge domestic investment on it. Micron, like other semiconductor MNC, is facing big challenge regarding the talent competition from local semiconductor companies and other MNCs when attracting and hiring talents in, especially when it comes to R&D functions. My first challenge after joining Micron was dealing with a extremely urgent vacancy that had been opened for over 6 months which exceeded the originally planned start date for 120 days, and this put huge pressure to hiring department. I managed to fill this vacancy within 2 weeks from sourcing, interviewing, offer negotiating and offer acceptance by utilizing new sourcing and candidate management solutions. This revealed the pressure of the hiring manager vividly and I got praise from the hiring manager, at the same time, the candidate was quite satisfied with our offer after tough negotiation.
This is one of my greatest moment in Micron for it showed the capability and tenacity of TA team and set up a standard of working capability and quality for myself. Within this successful case were the close collaboration between TA team members and the carrying out of our People, Tenacity, Innovation and Collaboration values.
