Have you ever had an unsuccessful project and what did you learn?

Usually we do not have instances of whole project being unsuccessful, rather there are failures in some parts of the project which affect achieving the overall targets. I have experienced such setbacks, most recently in one of our product.

The product encountered major technical issue while being tested at the customer system. Upon deep diving, it was realized that the issue was caused due to communication gap between the two parties concerning one of the crucial performance parameter. Considering the long product development period, such problems can delay the overall project and affects the company financially.

Based on this experience, I learned that it is very important to have clarity on exact customer requirements and if some aspect is ambiguous, proper communication should be ensured so that both parties are on the same page. Also, one should strive to be up to date with the rapidly evolving technology in order to avoid such pitfalls and be in better position to fulfill ever-changing customer expectations.
